A major milestone for African innovation as AI4PEP Cameroon shares its groundbreaking work on national television

The AI4PEP Cameroon team recently stepped into the national spotlight with an inspiring interview on Prime News, where they shared groundbreaking insights into the AI4Mpox Initiative. Representing the future of digital health in Africa, the team from digiCare passionately explained how they are leveraging artificial intelligence to track, predict, and respond to Mpox outbreaks in real time.

This appearance on Prime News signals growing national and regional recognition of African-led technological solutions to public health challenges. As part of the AI4Mpox Initiative, the team is developing and deploying AI-powered tools that collect and analyze diverse data sources, such as confirmed case numbers, wastewater surveillance, satellite imagery, animal data, and even Google Trends, to deliver real-time outbreak forecasting, early warning, and hotspot detection.

During the interview, Our delegate in Cameroon, Professor Nsangha, emphasized the initiative’s mission: using data collected by the national health system to power predictive models that bring healthcare workers, policymakers, and data scientists into closer collaboration. “We use data collected by the healthcare system in Cameroon to make predictions and models, which are captured by our AI  bringing the healthcare system closer to decision-makers,” he explained.

The feature illustrated how AI4PEP’s interdisciplinary approach, blending data science, epidemiology, and public health policy, offers a scalable model not just for Mpox, but for future health threats as well. It also underscored AI4PEP’s broader mission to promote health equity, strengthen early warning systems, and ensure that digital innovation is inclusive and community-driven.

This moment marks a powerful step forward for public health innovation in Cameroon and across the continent. AI4PEP’s work is a shining example of how African-led innovation is transforming health systems and advancing equity through technology.
