Spotlight on AI Governance: A New Publication from AI4PEP Researchers
AI4PEP is proud to highlight a significant publication by our researchers, “Exploring AI Governance in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region: Gaps, Efforts, and Initiatives,” which was featured in the journal, Data & Policy.
The MENA region is experiencing rapid technological transformation, with Artificial Intelligence playing an increasingly pivotal role in various sectors, including healthcare, education, and public administration. However, significant gaps in governance frameworks, infrastructure, and equitable AI adoption remain. These gaps hinder the region’s ability to fully harness AI’s potential while safeguarding against its risks.
This article addresses these challenges by exploring:
- The current state of AI governance in the MENA region.
- Existing initiatives aimed at bridging governance gaps.
- Barriers to effective policy implementation, including ethical, social, and technological constraints.
- Recommendations for fostering inclusive, sustainable, and responsible AI ecosystems.
This research underscores AI4PEP’s commitment to addressing the unique challenges faced by the MENA region in adopting responsible AI solutions. By highlighting gaps and proposing actionable solutions, the article provides a roadmap for creating governance frameworks that prioritize equity, ethics, and community-driven innovation.
The work aligns closely with our mission to advance responsible AI solutions that promote equity, inclusivity, and sustainability across the Global South.
